School holiday fun in Logan

Keep the kids entertained these holidays without busting your budget

School holidays are here again! You can be sure the kids will still be pestering you for fun things to do – and when you’re unemployed or trying to get by on a low income, keeping the kids entertained on your tight budget can be a real challenge.

Beat boredom without needing to blow a load of cash on expensive outings and entertainment – here’s some fun, free or cheap ideas!

Hop on into your local library for free workshops and activities

 Get robotic

Kids will love exploring some simple colour based computer programming language to get their robot to dance, move and play! Suitable for kids aged 8 and up, check the program for details and book in for your local session.

Go to the flicks for nix!

Your local library not only runs a range of free craft workshops these holidays, there’s also free movie screenings including Inside Out, Hotel Transylvania 2, Paddington, Maya Bee, Jurassic World and Minions – including a best dressed competition. Screenings are on at various locations from Wednesday 30th March through to Saturday 9th April – check the program for movies and dates.

 Let your imagination run wild

Take a journey into the imagination with acclaimed children’s writer, performer and comedienne Nadia Sunde. Bookings are essential – check the program and book in for performance dates at your local library from Saturday 2nd April through to Tuesday 5th April.

Make a (ceramic!) cake and start saving

Kids will love making their own ceramic money box in one of these free workshops from Tuesday 29 March through to Thursday 7th April. Bookings are essential – check the program for workshop dates and locations.

And there’s lots more happening at Logan Libraries these holidays, including animation, card making, sewing and after dark gaming. Check out the program for dates and details!

Enjoy the last of the warm weather – splash in and cool off

  • For those of us who aren’t lucky enough to have a backyard pool (or who are just looking for a change of scene!), the Logan area boasts loads of fabulous aquatic centres.
  • While you’ll need to pay for entry, grabbing a family pass will save you some cash, as will packing your own snacks and drinks. So splash in for the day and let the kids go wild and wear themselves out!

Cuddle up to a koala

Come along to the FREE Family Fun Day at the Daisy Hill Koala Centre on Sunday 3 April from 10am – 2pm. Check out the reptile display, koala rescue display, craft activities, wildlife talks, native bird education and enjoy a tasty sausage sizzle.

Hop into IKEA Logan for free kids craft

Head to Ikea from 10:30am – 1:30pm on Wednesday 30th March for free kids Easter craft activities in the IKEA Restaurant. Kids can also put on their detective hats and join the in-store Treasure Hunt from Tuesday 29th March through to Sunday 10th April.

And don’t forget the big kids – holiday fun for teens
