New to the Wollongong area? Try this fun new initiative to make new friends
Moving to a new area can be a strange and isolating time. Making new friends can be tough at the best of times, but when you’re unfamiliar with your new area, where to go and what to do, it’s made even harder.
Sure, if you’ve got kids, there’s opportunities to meet other parents through school and through activities like swimming lessons, dance classes, playgroups and toddler sports. But what about making your own adult friends and networks?
After experiencing some isolation when moving to her new home in the Illawarra, Wombarra mum Bridget Kirby decided there was an opportunity to make this struggle easier for others who might be new to the area. And so Coal Coast Mums Club was born.
But this is not your typical Mothers Group or playgroup style gathering. Instead, the group aims to bring women together, to help them form friendships and gain inspiration from other successful working mums. With a mantra of ‘Socialise, Network, Inspire’, the group’s first event, a luncheon complete with crèche and a special guest speaker, was a raging success with close to 60 women jumping on board.
Their second event was equally successful, and featured a ‘Dressing Up’ theme that encouraged attendees to wear their most fabulous high heels. A fashion designer was a guest speaker and there were lucky door prizes, stalls and goodie bags.
The group are now gearing up for a dinner night on 15th December. Get on board and join in the fun! You can also follow Coal Coast Mums Club on Facebook.
