Like taxes – bills are an unfortunate certainty of life. Let’s be honest – everyone hates when unexpected bills pop up, and the brunt can be a lot harder to bear when you don’t have a steady income to pay the cost or bill.
Thankfully, there is financial help available for pensioners through the means of the age pension and the Centrelink disability support pension. However, the amount paid to pensioners on these programs is minimal and often isn’t an adequate amount when unexpected bills arise. We offer loans across Australia – including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.
Furthermore, many financial institutions aren’t willing to offer personal loans to pensioners because of their employment status.
At City Finance we understand that pensioners often need cash loans, and we believe they have the capability to pay these loans back. Because of this, we happily offer cash loans to many pensioners – as well as those on disability pensions.
Applying for a pensioner loan is a breeze. In fact, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3, as you can see below.
To apply for a loan with City Finance, you’ll need to fill in an online application form, which you can find here. The application is simple and you’ll just be required to select the amount you’d like to borrow and the repayment time, as well as fill in some personal information, send proof of identity and your most recent 90-day bank statement.
Once we receive the information from you, someone from our team will call you to confirm your application details. If your application is approved, we’ll contact you to confirm the approval and send your contract. We’ll also get your bank details so we can send over the money.
Once you’ve been approved, you should receive the money by the end of the day. However, most customers receive the money even sooner. From here you’ll be able to spend the money on what you please – and you will just need to meet the contracted repayments (weekly, fortnightly or monthly)
What are a pensioner and/or disability loans?
Pensioner loans are loans that are lent out to people who are on the age pension and/or the Centrelink disability pension. A pensioner loan is essentially a personal loan that’s available for applicants on either of these programs.
The age pension is a program in Australia where residents who are 66 years of age or older are eligible for payments from the government. There are also income and asset requirements that determine whether the applicant is eligible.
The disability support pension is an initiative in which Australian residents whose physical, intellectual or psychiatric impairment prevents them from working, or who are permanently blind. The government department will assess applications to determine whether an applicant is eligible.
While these payments can be very helpful to recipients, the amount that’s paid out isn’t a large amount of money. So, if an unexpected bill or cost pops up, it can be devastating to a pensioner’s finances. Regardless, some costs are unavoidable and must be attended to immediately. If you find yourself in this situation then we’re able to help with a pensioner or disability loan, and can often fund on the very same day.
We don’t believe that just because you’re already receiving money from the government doesn’t mean that you should be ineligible to apply for a loan. In fact, the payments are proof that you have money coming in and have the scope to pay the loan back.
After all, retirement is the time when people should be able to enjoy the fruits of their labour and relax – not worry about being unable to pay urgent bills. Here, at City Finance we aim to do everything we can to help you pay your unexpected bills and ensure that the repayment process is as stress-free as possible.
Am I eligible for a loan?
We have very flexible terms for a pensioner loan, so if you’ve found this page, then you’re probably eligible for pensioner loans! All we require is that you are receiving some sort of payment (this is likely to be the age pension and/or the Centrelink disability pension). If you have proof of this, then the only other information we’ll require is a copy of your id, some supporting bank statements and a short online form that will need to be filled out. Worried about a bad credit rating? Unlike many lenders, we consider loans for all circumstances – check out our bad credit loans for more information.
What supporting documents and information do we need to process your pensioners & disability loan application?

- A copy of your ID
- A short application form with details such as your address and phone number

At City Finance we’ve been in the lending business for over twenty years so we have decades of experience in granting personal loans for pensioners. As you can see from our reviews, we are an established and trusted lending company that has helped many people.
As our pensioner loans demonstrate, we strongly believe in inclusive lending. We don’t believe that just because a loan applicant doesn’t fit an exact checklist of lending criteria requirements that they should automatically be denied a loan. In fact, we ensure that our skilled lenders speak directly with our customers so that they can understand their personal circumstances and help the applicant be approved. They can help determine a loan amount that works well for you and one that suits your financial circumstances.
Our all-inclusive lending policy extends to people with a bad credit history. Even if you have bad credit, there’s a good chance we’ll still be able to lend you money.
We know that costs, bills and payments can be urgent – so we pride ourselves on our quick application process and quick approval process. Our lenders specialise solely in loans, so they are skilled at making quick decisions, and in many circumstances, applicants can get money the same day they apply for a personal loan.
We’ve also worked hard to create a system where repayments are made simple. We can work out a schedule that works for you with flexible amounts lent, as well as flexible repayment terms. We also take the hassle out of repayments by arranging a direct debit that will automatically deduct your agreed repayment from your nominated bank account on the due date.
We think it’s important for our customers to understand that they are dealing with real people at City Finance – not a faceless computer screen. We understand if a situation arises which makes you unable to meet a repayment. If this happens, please get in touch with us and our team can work with you to figure out a contingency plan that you can manage.
What can I use a pensioner and disability loan for?
A pensioner loan is essentially a form of personal loan. Because it’s not a secured loan, you can use the money for whatever you please. Some common things that our customers use cash loans for include:
- Car repairs
- Medical expenses
- Rental bonds
- Furniture or white goods
- Unexpected emergencies
- Vet bills
- Home renovations
- Travel loans
- Payday advances
For emergency situations like medical expenses, vet bills and general unexpected emergencies, people are often hit with bills that they had no idea were coming. For this reason, a lot of people haven’t budgeted for these types of costs and don’t have cash available to pay the bills straight away. These types of costs also often require immediate payment in order to receive treatment or rectify the problem. In a situation like this, City Finance’s fast approval and application process – as well as our fast cash payouts – can be a lifeline.
In other situations where you’re looking to improve the quality of your life – like a holiday or a house upgrade – you may not have enough cash on hand to do the things you want. This doesn’t mean you need to wait. Instead, you can apply for a loan with us and gradually pay the balance – while enjoying yourself in the meantime.
Will my credit history be checked for a pensioner loan?
Generally, we do run credit history checks for our loans – including pensioner loans. However, if you’re worried about your bad credit history and are concerned you won’t be approved because of it, we do offer no-credit-check loans. This type of loan will allow you to apply for a personal loan with us and your credit score won’t be looked at. Instead, our team will look at your personal circumstances and your history with us to determine whether you’re eligible.
Is a pensioner loan a personal loan or a secured loan?
Our pensioner loans are personal loans (sometimes known as cash loans), which means you won’t need security or collateral for the loan. It also means you’ll receive a cash deposit for the loan, and you’re able to spend this how you please.
How much money can I borrow with personal loans?
On your application, you can choose the amount of money you’d like to borrow. The loan amount we can offer ranges from $500 to $5000 cash. A member of our team will consider your application and try to grant the amount you’ve asked for. However, if they need more information they will contact you directly to determine a loan amount that they think suits your financial situation.
What fees are involved with your loans?
At City Finance we offer two types of pensioner loans; a SACC (small amount credit contract) and a MACC (medium amount credit contract).
You can loan between $500 and $2,000 with a SACC. The cost is a 20% upfront establishment fee (split across payments) and monthly fees of 4% for maintenance.
If you’re after more money, you can take out a MACC. With a MACC you can loan between $2,001 and $5,000. You will be charged a flat upfront $400 establishment fee (split across payments) and a 48% annual percentage rate. With this option, there are no monthly fees for maintenance.
